Art Jewelry - Byzantine Lapis Lazuli Star Pendant
This piece is modeled on 'basket' earrings, named for the round “basket” of gold wire or sheet gold on the hoop. The earrings date from the Italian Langobardic period (6th - 7th century). They were of gold and the 'basket' was surrounded by a sexagram (six-pointed star). A gift that combines Italian and Germanic elements.
