Art Nouveau Jewelry - English Dragonfly Cuff

Regular price $ 125.00 $ 0.00
A gift of art based on a design in a rare album put together by jeweler Edgar Simpson (British, 1867 - 1945). The album is bound in leather and contains 34 pages of original designs in the Art Nouveau style. With their sinuous, plant-like forms, Simpson’s imaginative sketches for brooches, pendants, and other adornments display the essence of this influential decorative style, which grew out of the Arts and Crafts and the Aesthetic movements and reached its apogee about 1900. This exquisite piece of art jewelry is based on a dragonfly design in this album.

Edgar Simpson established a jewelry shop in Nottingham and was associated with Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the celebrated Glasgow designer, some of whose work he exhibited at the 1902 Vienna Secession exhibit. Extant pieces by Simpson include curvaceous necklaces, repoussé copper panels, goblets, and brooches.
