Frankl Art Deco Watch

Regular price $ 60.00 $ 0.00
A gift of art with the tenor of the Roaring Twenties and Art Deco, the design of this watch is based on an original Paul Frankl (American, b. Austria, 1886–1958) clock, whose rectangular face featured stylized numerals and radiating bands of alternating gold and gray. Frankl had his fingers in many pies. He was trained as an architect at the Berlin Polytechnic but is most well-known for his work as a designer of fine art and furniture. His celebrated ‘skyscraper style’ is considered to have captured the spirit of Art Deco in an American idiom. This watch copies Frankl’s Modernique clock which was commissioned in 1927. The term Art Deco derives from the name of the official fair of arts held in Paris and known as Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes.

This American Art Deco watch is produced in cooperation with the Brooklyn Museum.
