Louis XIV Pastoral Scene Watch

Regular price $ 59.95 $ 0.00
A gift of art with the spirit of France’s golden cultural age under the Sun King, Louis XIV, this magnificent watch, which is housed in the Metropolitan Museum’s Robert Lehman Collection, is adapted from a gold and enamel pocket watch made in Paris about 1650. The watch is decorated by an image of the young Louis XIV (1638–1715) on horseback, and a miniature with the arms of France and Navarre and the Orders of Saint Michael and the Holy Spirit. It is generally considered to have been made for the king. Also on its face is a pastoral scene of the idyllic French countryside, which has been adapted for this elegant replica of the original watch.
